Color Study Paintings

The Painting students just started the course two weeks ago.   Before starting any big projects on stretched canvases, I wanted them to have a firm understanding of color mixing.  For this project, the students used geometric designs to explore variations of one color.  We talked about:
Analogous Colors: Colors next to one another
Tints: Adding white
Shades: Adding Black
Complementary Colors: Colors opposite one another on the color wheel.  They can be used next to one another to add contrast or mixed together to create dulled colors.
