Figure Drawing

Classes at WMA are over and summer has (almost) begun. I will have a lot of free time and plan on spending it soaking up the sun, relaxing, and creating artwork. I have a few comissions lined up and I also have a few plans for drawings and paintings. Since 2009, there has been a bit of a creative lull in my life, but, I have been drawing again and it feels great!

I recently joined a figure drawing group at an old mill studio building down the road.
The first week, the model didn't show up, so we spent the three hours drawing each other. It seemed like a good idea, but you'd be surprised how much clothes change the experience. Instead of paying attention to proportion and form, a lot of time is spent on the folds of the fabric. The poses ranged from 5 to 20 minutes... we sparatically jumped back and forth with times but should have started with some one minute warm ups.

Yesterday, the model did show up! We started with one minute poses, did a few 10 minute ones and then worked our way up to a 30 minute pose. Wow, what a difference to draw from this model!
